Solo USA Travel Tips
Solo Travel - USA Tips:
Tip 1 – Use all the General Tips, the Solo Travel - General Tips, and the following.
Tip 2 – Again, know the weather conditions and hazards you may encounter for the area, and what to do. Have a plan!
(I was in the Southwest once and saw places that said if you see water here, do not cross. What was a trickle could get deep quick if there is a flash flood. Know that it could be hours before the water may go down, and you may have to wait a while or take a detour.)
(I have been in the Southwest and Midwest during tornado warnings and although I never saw one, or heard of one touching down anywhere near, I was looking for cover, just in case there was one.)
(I've also had a close encounter with a dust storm. Anyone want their car sand blasted? Another one of those weather issues to watch out for.)
Tip 3 – Travel in spring and fall avoiding the traffic and the families that travel when school is out. This may also provide for a little more relaxed pace and flexibility.
Tip 4 – Should I make a reservation? One of the reasons I travel in shoulder season is so I don't have to make a reservation, and I can be very flexible in where I go and when. If I see something that looks interesting I can stop, or if I want more time somewhere I can take it. I'm usually checking in around five, so I have time to find another place if I happen on a full hotel/motel. I only make a reservation if I'm staying in a big city or the area of a tourist attraction. (Of course it is pretty easy to cancel or change reservations, so you do have the option.) Do what makes you feel comfortable and/or safe.
